The Alabama CCIM Chapter takes pride in promoting the coveted CCIM designation. Our scholarship programs are designed to encourage and assist professionals pursuing the CCIM designation and to promote high education standards.
The Named Endowed Scholarship, is dedicated to an individual for their contributions to the commercial real estate industry. The Scholarship was funded by the CCIM Foundation, friends, and members of the Alabama CCIM Chapter. Named endowed scholarships honor those who have shown great dedication, commitment, outstanding achievement and service to the commercial real estate industry. With this scholarship, the Alabama CCIM Chapter will award an annual Alabama Chapter Member with the reimbursement of $1,000 for one of the four core courses of CCIM Institute successfully passed in Alabama.

Chad Thomas Hagwood Scholarship

Awarded to Alabama Chapter member for CCIM core class or Course Concepts Review class. Chad Thomas Hagwood of Birmingham, is Senior Managing Director and Southeast Regional Director for LUMENT. Over the course of his career, he has closed in excess of $10 billion in commercial real estate transactions and is consistently ranked as one of the industry’s leading loan originators. Chad has been an active member and supporter for many years of the Alabama CCIM Chapter, and currently serves on the Board of Directors.

J. Cotten Volman CCIM Scholarship

Awarded to Alabama Chapter member for CCIM core class. Cotten, of Mountain Brook, was a board member of the Alabama CCIM Chapter. Cotton graduated from the University of Alabama in 1994, being awarded a Bachelors of Science degree in Finance with a concentration in real estate. He passed away in 2013 at 40 years of age leaving behind his wife and two young daughters. At the time of his passing, Cotton was a mortgage banking executive with Capital Advisors in Birmingham.

C. William Barnhill CCIM Scholarship

Awarded to Alabama Chapter member for CCIM core class. Bill has been involved in the Commercial Real Estate Business over 40 years, having specialized for the last 23 years in self storage. He was a founder of the Gulf Coast District for CCIM in Mobile, AL. He is a past president of the Alabama CCIM Chapter and Alabama Real Estate Securities and Syndication Institute. He is currently President of Omega Properties, Inc., a commercial real estate management and brokerage firm located in Mobile, Alabama. He has been actively engaged with the Alabama Self Storage Association having served as an officer. Bill has written various articles about self storage and commercial real estate some of which have been published in the Commercial Investment Real Estate magazine.

Tom Crawford Scholarship

Awarded to Alabama Chapter member for CCIM core class. Tom Crawford of Birmingham, Alabama, is Chairman of The Title Group Incorporated, which he founded in 1984. He was one of the founding board members of the CCIM Alabama Chapter, and has been an active member and supporter for over 30 years.

John Lauriello CCIM Scholarship

Awarded to Alabama Chapter member for CCIM core class. John Lauriello, CCIM, of Birmingham, is Principal of Southpace Properties, a company he co-founded in 1984 and now the largest independent commercial real estate firm in the state. He was one of the founding board members of the CCIM Alabama Chapter and has been active with commercial real estate in metro Birmingham since 1978, achieving more than $400,000,000 of leasing and sales activity and $250,000,000 of development activity.

Charles F. White CCIM Scholarship

Charlie worked for several years with Colonial Properties, Inc., a regional full service real estate company, and with Johnson Rast and Hays. Later, he was an independent developer with Commercial Net Lease Realty of Orlando, Fl., and an associate broker for Southpace Properties of Birmingham, a New America Network affiliate. Charlie has also been a featured speaker for Coldwell Banker, Re/Max, Grubb and Ellis, and Century 21 Commercial, and has addressed state conventions for Ohio, Florida, and Alabama. Charlie has been an instructor for the CCIM Institute for 17 years. He received the Robert L. Ward Instructor of the Year award in 2000, and Senior Instructor of the year for individual courses three times. Besides teaching in the U.S., Charlie has also taught CCIM courses in Canada and Russia.

Troy McClendon CCIM Scholarship

Awarded to University of Alabama in Birmingham student-use is discretion of student. Troy of Millbrook, was the founder of a successful self storage business and served as a member of the Army National Guard. He was a founding board member and President of the Alabama CCIM Chapter, and also a CCIM instructor for over 30 years. Troy passed away in 2013 at 72 years of age.

William H. Moss CCIM Scholarship

Bill Moss joined Southpace in 2012 after a 35+ year career with a regional commercial real estate firm which eventually emerged as a publically traded Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT). Bill earned his Certified Commercial Investment Member (CCIM) designation in 1984. Bill is a past president of both the Alabama CCIM chapter and the Greater Birmingham Association of Homebuilders. Bill has been a CCIM Instructor for 18 years. He was the 2006 Instructor of the Year for CI 104 and 2007 Robert L. Ward Instructor of the Year. In 2008, Bill was awarded a named endowment scholarship from the Alabama CCIM chapter for the Mitchell School of Business at the University of South Alabama. He currently serves on the national Board of Directors.
