Increasing Your Network to Increase Your Net Worth

On 20, Jul, 2017

Whether we like it or not, networking and real estate are two inseparable forces. There are few industries that rely so heavily on networking. In order to be successful, real estate agents truly have to master talking the talk and walking the walk. This means that knowing the best ways to meet new, influential people is practically a necessity. While it sounds like an easy mission, it can feel incredibly difficult when you are first trying to break into the industry. Let’s go over some tricks to help break down social barriers and jumpstart your career!

Get Out

This shouldn’t be a surprise, but the first step of connecting with new people is meeting new people! When looking for networking events, it will be tempting to only go to free events. While we don’t discourage attending these, we do suggest joining some paid networking groups. It may feel like a risky investment, but networking with people who are also serious enough to pay will quite literally pay off. This being said, every new person you meet could be a new connection, so always be aware and ready to market yourself.

Be Genuine

People can tell who wants to be at an event and who is just going through the motions. Smile, have fun, and take a lot of cards! It is important to be polite and not be on your phone or talking to friends the whole time. You have put time, money, and effort to be at these events, so act like it! Take the time to actually learn about others by asking questions about their family, job, and whatever else springs up. Be the friendly face you would want to talk to, but let it come naturally.

Reconnect

Meeting new people and exchanging information will not be enough to generate new leads. You will have to take active steps to stay on the top of their mind. First, any new contacts you receive need to be entered into a database of some sort. This allows you to never stress about where a number went or lose a potential sale. Don’t be afraid to be the first one to reach out, but keep it friendly. Check in on how they are doing, and see if they will be at a future event.
